A Message From The Vice-Chairman, Frank Bell

As you may know Consett AFC are awaiting the go ahead for the new facilities to be built in Consett. These are currently being held up be a minority group who may not understand the overall benefits from the new facilities for the community and all its age groups.

What is planned to be built is a new state of the art academy for the children. This will provide the most modern equipment and facilities to prepare them for the life ahead. This is a purpose built facility with the latest IT technology available to help the children of Derwentside helping to create a bright future for them for many years to come. In addition a new leisure facility and swimming pool will also be built to service the community at all age groups. The facilities we have are extremely well utilised but they are very tired and in need of replacement before we loose these. In addition there will be a new football facility at Consett which will house the Consett AFC team. However, it is important to note that this facility will also house the 34 junior teams with the seven hundred children from the area associated with it. In addition it will provide community facilities for local schools and the club will be working in harmony with the FA to support and provide training and coaching to the local children and adults. This facility will also provide a hub for community requirements which is really needed with the loss of facilities such as the civic centre. The facilities will be made available daytime and in the evening to local groups of all ages who require a clean warm environment to follow their interests or just meet socially.

All of the above will clearly bring employment to the area and in addition replace a number of facilities which are tired and certainly not beneficial to the beauty of the area.
