Consett Committee Appeal

The club is currently run by a small committee which could get smaller at the end of the season as a number of committee members have made it known that they wish to step down in the summer.

If the club is to remain as one of the Northern League’s leading clubs we need people to come forward to help fill the void.

The main areas that the club needs help in are:- Fundraising/attracting sponsorship, match day jobs, and work on the ground/pitch.

Fundraising/attracting sponsorship.

The club recently suffered a big blow when it lost the services of Commercial Manager Billy Humphreys because of illness. Billy suffered a stroke and is unlikely to be able to do the work that he did in the past. He was the club’s biggest fundraiser, not just through the selling of tickets etc., but in attracting sponsorship from local businesses. The club needs somebody to step into Billy’s shoes and take the Commercial Manager’s role. It doesn’t need to be a one man/woman job, if more than one person is interested then they could work together as a team. We know in these times of the ‘credit crunch’ it wont be easy to attract new sponsors or even retain existing ones but we have to try.

Match day jobs.

Finding people to cover all of the jobs required on a match day can sometimes be a problem. The main jobs that we could require help in are:- the gate, selling programmes and raffle tickets and helping in the snack bar. If enough people came forward we could work things on a rota basis where you may have to do a job maybe once in every three games.

Ground/pitch.

Maintaining an old ground like Belle Vue Park is a never ending task and if anyone has any spare time during the week there are always jobs to do, like keeping the ground tidy and in the summer there are jobs such as painting. But the main problem we have is the pitch. The club currently does not have a groundsman, the pitch is maintained by committee members as and when they can, but it doesn’t get as much time spent on it as it should. We would be glad to hear from anyone who would be interested in maintaining the pitch. Again if more than one person came forward then you could work together.

Norman Smith, the treasurer, has also said that he would like to step down from that post in the summer. We would be delighted to hear from anyone who would be interested in taking up this post.

Remember the above posts are all voluntary and no remuneration is involved. Also you don’t necessarily have to join the committee if you don’t want to. We currently have people who help the club in various ways but are not officially on the committee.
