This game was a personal triumph for Consett striker Michael Mackay who notched all five goals for The Steelmen as they came from behind to pick up a vital three points in their first League win since the 5th November.

Manager Ken Lindoe made two changes to the side narrowly beaten at Whitley Bay in the previous game. Richie Slaughter came into the side for Jonjo Dickman and Dale Burrell returned with David Molloy missing out due to suspension.

Mackay could have had more goals as he had two early chances to put the home side ahead. After five minutes he was played in by Burrell but he was forced wide when rounding the keeper and could only find the side-netting with his effort.

Ten minutes in he missed a better opportunity when he poked the ball wide following a pull back from the by-line by Anthony Lund.

It was, therefore, out of the blue that the visitors took the lead in the 12th minute. Young keeper Peter Jameson saw his attempted clearance blocked by Jarrow striker Guerin-Lokonga who then fired into the empty net.

But Consett hit back five minutes later with an individual effort by Mackay who went on a run, cut in from the left then shot past the wrong footed keeper from the edge of the area.

The home side doubled their advantage just before the half hour when Gavin Ross played the ball into Mackay who ran on and rounded the keeper to net.

The Steelmen could have added another after 33 minutes when Burrell found David Scorer, who was still forward following a corner, but the centre-half shot wide with only the keeper to beat.

Roofing were still a threat going forward and went close to equalising when Southern shot over from a good position after the ball had broken loose.

The visitors threatened again four minutes after the interval when Hughes broke away but shot across the face of goal and narrowly wide.

Ryan Bell and Burrell both had chances for Consett but on 65 minutes Jameson was called upon to make a vital save when he pushed away Guerin-Lokonga's shot.

Visiting keeper Courtney was called into action three minutes later when he blocked an effort from Burrell, Harrison Davies the provider with a super pass.

Consett grabbed a vital third goal with 75 minutes on the clock. They were awarded a free-kick just outside the penalty area. Davies' took the kick but it was blocked, his follow up, though, forced Courtney to make a fine save but Mackay was on hand to tap the rebound home to complete his hat-trick.

Six minutes later Consett made the game safe with the best goal of the night. Young substitute Jack Stanger, who had only been on the field for four minutes, played the ball into the path of Mackay who, now full of confidence, lobbed the ball over the stranded keeper.

The icing on the cake came with two minutes to go when The Steelmen added their fifth. Davies played the ball to Lund who crossed dangerously into the box. Courtney got a hand to it but he only succeeded in presenting Mackay with a simple tap in to complete the scoring.
