Stalemate at the Brewery Field as Consett went to league leaders Spennymoor Town and came away with a 0-0 draw. It was the second successive season that this fixture has produced a goalless draw, however it was certainly a good point for the Steelmen, and probably more welcome than that was the clean sheet - only the second of the season.

Consett made an unceremonious exit from this season's FA Cup, losing 1-6 in their 1st Qualifying Round replay at North Ferriby United. Mattie Moffat scored the goal for the Steelmen, a penalty to make the score 1-1 at the time, however the Unibond side eventually ran riot and progress to play Newcastle Blue Star in the next round.

Consett claimed an excellent 3-1 win away at Newcastle Benfield today with a performance as good as any seen this season. They led 2-0 at half time thanks to a great strike from Steven Brown (pictured above) and a Mattie Moffat penalty after Jonjo Dickman had been fouled in the area. Consett should have been out of sight by the time Michael Chilton pulled one back for the home side on 79 minutes, and in view of recent thrown away leads some of the travelling following started to get a bit nervous. However Steven Johnson's excellent finish in the last minute of normal time, from a superb through ball from man of the match Dickman, settled the nerves and gave the scoreline a fairer look.

Consett were taken to another replay in tonight's FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round tie, drawing 4-4 at home to North Ferriby United. And as with the previous round the Steelmen will be kicking themselves for not winning a game they led three times, and by four goals to two with just 16 minutes left. In a cracking cup tie, Consett took the lead after 7 minutes when Mattie Moffat volleyed in, but Ferriby levelled on 19 minutes when Sam Denton scored from close range following a corner. The Steelmen regained the lead five minutes later though as Moffat's header hit the bar and Steve Johnson nodded in the rebound. Back came Ferriby to make it 2-2 after 42 minutes, when from a free-kick, Coulthard's header went backwards over the stranded Gilmore's head, and was touched in by Denton. Incredibly though, Consett went 3-2 up on the stroke of half time through Jonjo Dickman who slotted into the bottom corner after being played in by Moffat. Seven minutes into the second half an emphatic finish by Johnson made it 4-2, and Consett started to look to the next round. On 74 minutes though the fightback began when Gilmore fumbled a cross, and ball was cleared to Russell Fry who shot into the top corner from 30 yards. Two minutes later it was 4-4, Torpey forcing home at the far post from a cross. The sides will have to go through it all again in the replay at North Ferriby next Tuesday, 23 September.

An impressive performance by Consett this evening as they eased past West Auckland Town by four goals to nil. The Steelmen got off to an incredible start and were two up in seven minutes. Andrew Cuthbertson scored his first Consett goal after five minutes, finding the bottom corner from the edge of the area, then Mattie Moffat had the easiest of finishes to make it 2-0 (pictured above) following good work from Steven Johnson. A Steven Brown screamer in first half stoppage put Consett three up at the break. There was no further scoring in a tame second half until Moffat rounded the keeper on the stroke of full time to make it 4-0.

The league have acted quickly to ease our fixture headache by re-arranging our home game against West Auckland Town for this Wednesday, 10 September. Kick off is at 7.30.
6 September 2008
As the North East of England continues its process of becoming Lake Northumbria, it comes as no surprise that today's game at Newcastle Benfield has been POSTPONED due to a very waterlogged pitch. If anyone can remember the last time Consett lost two games to adverse weather conditions in the first four weeks of the season I'd be very interested to hear from them. In addition, Sunderland Nissan's FA Vase tie at Washington was postoned today, re-arranged for Tuesday, so our away game at Nissan scheduled for Wednesday is now also OFF. This means that barely a week into September the Steelmen already have a sizeable fixture backlog with an unbelievable EIGHT games to be re-arranged. Lord knows what happens if we get a bad winter as well ... !
3 September 2008
Consett overcame Bishop Auckland at the second attempt in their FA Cup Preliminary Round replay this evening, winning by a comfortable 4-1 margin. As had been the case on Sunday, the Steelmen went into a three goal lead, this time by half time. Mattie Moffat set the ball rolling with a 6th minute penalty, with Steven Johnson making it 2-0 four minutes later. Moffat netted his second and Consett's third on the stroke of half time. When Barton pulled one back midway through the second half there was a faint sense of deja vu. However there was to be no repeat of Sunday's heroics and Johnson wrapped things up two minutes into stoppage time to set up a 1st Qualifying Round tie at home to North Ferriby United of the Unibond Premier on Saturday 13 September.

Sticking with Bishop Auckland our home league game against them scheduled for 24 September has been cancelled due to Bishops' involvement in the Durham Challenge Cup. It will be arranged for a later date.
