December 2008 News

27 December 2008

A rare outbreak of football this afternoon as Consett played their first home game for a month, entertaining Dunston Federation in a crucial game at the top of Division One. A cracking festive period game ended 2-2 to extend the Steelmen's unbeaten run to six games, in which they have accrued 16 points. David Pounder fired Consett ahead after just three minutes, but nine minutes later Kane Young levelled the scores. Paul Gilmore was Consett's hero just after the half hour mark when he saved a Fergal Harkin penalty, but two minutes later Fed took the lead anyway thanks to Consett old boy Andrew Bulford. Carl Piecha made it 2-2 three minutes into the second half and that was the way it finished to leave the Steelmen five points clear of Spennymoor Town at the top of the league, although the Moors have two games in hand.

Consett have found themselves kicking their heels for the fourth consecutive Saturday as their away game at Morpeth Town has been POSTPONED. This is due to the Craik Park pitch being waterlogged - as it appears to be between November and February every year.

Consett's away game at Tow Law was POSTPONED for the second time in ten days this evening, as melting snow caused the Ironworks Road ground to be waterlogged.

13 December 2008

Consett's home game against Seaham Red Star this afternoon has been POSTPONED. The pitch is still frozen, and the overnight rain is merely standing on top of it rather than thawing it. In short, unplayable.

10 December 2008

Consett extended their lead at the top of the Northern League to 10 points with an excellent 3-1 away win at second placed Sunderland Nissan. Michael Coulthard put the Steelmen ahead in the 7th minute, and that was the was in stayed until the closing stages when two goals in nine minutes from Mattie Moffat (72) and Craig Robson (81) made the points safe. Stuart Banks pulled one back for Nissan in the 84th minute but a comeback was never a serious possibility.
