The Steelmen came away from this tricky away game at Spennymoor with a creditable 0-0 draw. Moors had won all ten games they'd played at Brewery Field this season, so it was no mean achievement for Consett to come away with a point, and in doing so they extended their impressive run of clean sheets - this being the fifth in their last six league games.
Ken Lindoe made just one changes to the side that thumped Bedlington 7-1 in the FA Vase three days earlier. A fit-again Steven Johnson returned to the starting line-up with David Pounder moving back into midfield and John Clark dropping to the subs bench to accommodate him. |

The home side shaded a competitive first half played in heavy drizzle throughout. In the opening ten minutes Shaun Ross shot over from the edge of the box and David Manson forced a save from Craig Turns as Moors started brightly.

Turns was called into action again on 13 minutes when Adam Johnston shot straight at him which he ought to have done better.
Consett had a bright spell mid-way through the first half as first Mattie Moffat’s attempt at lobbing the keeper went just over and then Moors keeper Escritt saved a 20-yard strike from Steven Brown.
The home side always looked the more dangerous though, and came closest to scoring when Johnston clipped the crossbar after dispossessing Mark Gaffney in the 28th minute. |

Consett began the second half much brighter than they had the first. Steven Johnson almost capitalized on a poor back header from a Moors defender but blazed over having opted for power over precision. Moments later Pounder set up Gary Ormston who shot just wide from the edge of the area.
On 63 minutes, a strike from Jonjo Dickman took a huge deflection which caused Escritt to scramble across his goal to claw the ball to safety. |

With the game seemingly drifting towards a draw the Steelmen came closest to grabbing the winner nine minutes from time. Ormston’s cross from the right picked out Moffat whose towering header cannoned back off the crossbar.

Four minutes later Moffat was cursing his luck again as another Ormston cross evaded Escritt’s punch and looped towards goal, however, the ball wouldn’t come down for Moffat to apply the finishing touch and a defender cleared the danger.
Moors might have grabbed an 89th minute winner when Craig Bishop picked out an unmarked karl Richards at the back post, but he headed over and the game ended goalless. |
