Consett's FA Cup adventure came to an end as they went down 0-2 to Conference North side Workington in front of a crowd of 408 - the Steelmen's biggest for a home competitive fixture for many years. Despite being without their main strikers Steven Johnson and Mattie Moffat, Consett held on gallantly and looked set to be taking the Cumbrians to a replay when the deadlock was finally broken in the 87th minute as Kyle May headed home Graham Anthony's free kick. With Consett chasing an equaliser, Johnny Wright struck deep into stoppage time to give the score a rather unfair look. Match report

Consett extended their unbeaten run to eight games, and also kept their fourth consecutive clean sheet, with a 1-0 win at West Auckland Town this evening. Gary Ormston scored the all important goal to close the gap on Durham City and Whitley Bay above them.

A first goalless draw in almost 10 months for the normally free-scoring Steelmen as today's trip to Billingham Synthonia ended 0-0. It was a sterile game with virtually no clear-cut chances for either side. Consett's best goalscoring opportunity came 10 minutes from time when home defender Brian Close threw himself in the way of Mattie Moffat's goalbound strike. For the home side, Lee Flangan should have done better than to miscue wide when set up by Colin Iley four minutes before half time. Synners ended the game with ten men when Iley received a second yellow card in the 69th minute for persistent, bordering on relentless, foul play. On the plus side, it was a third consecutive clean sheet, and indeed fifth in six games, for the usually less than watertight Consett rearguard. Match report and pictures HERE. |

Consett's reward for their fine win over Ossett Town on Saturday was a 2nd Qualifying Round draw that was about as tough as it could be at this stage of the competition. The Steelmen have been pitted against former Football League club Workington, who currently stand in 6th place in the Blue Square Conference North, with the good news at least being that it is another home tie. This is to be played on Saturday 29 September, which of course means our league game at home Newcastle Benfield originally scheduled for that date will be postponed.

An absolutely superb performance by Consett saw them progress to the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup by beating Ossett Town of the Unibond Premier League 3-0. The Steelmen totally dominated the first half but only had a 31st minute Mattie Moffat penalty to show for their efforts. The spot kick was awarded for a wild Kung Fu challenge on Steven Brown by Ossett keeper Skiba (pictured above) and had to be retaken after Steven Johnson's first attempt had been saved by Skiba, but only after coming off his line. Consett killed the game with two goals in a minute on the hour mark. John Clark's left wing cross sailed over the keeper and into the net to double Consett's lead, then moments later Johnson set up Moffat to drill the ball home from eight yards. Jonjo Dickman's fourth goal in three games gave Consett a 1-0 win in a scrappy encounter at Morpeth Town's Craik Park this evening. The former Sunderland man burst from midfield, passing a Morpeth defence running out in the other direction to play a misconceved offside trap, before finishing well 16 minutes from time. The win was only the second ever victory at Morpeth by a Consett side. To complete a miserable night for the home team, Lee Bell was shown the red card two minutes into stoppage time following a wild tackle on Mattie Moffat that earned him a second yellow. We have been notified of a fixture change. Our game away at Durham City originally scheduled for Tuesday 25 September has been postponed due to Durham's involvement in the Durham Challenge Cup. We will now travel to West Auckland instead on Wednesday 26 September for a re-arranged League game.

Well, if nothing else Consett fans are getting entertained this season. Another crazy game involving the Steelmen ended with them playing a 3-3 draw at home to Sunderland Nissan. Consett made the perfect start and led 2-0 through two Jonjo Dickman strikes in the first 18 minutes. Gavin Cogden pulled one back for the visitors 10 minutes before half time, and then struck twice more in a six minutes spell early in the second half to complete his hat trick and put Nissan 3-2 up. However a 96th minute Steven Johnson equaliser salvaged a point for Consett to maintain their unbeaten record at Belle Vue this season. Match report HERE.
Elsewhere, in the FA Vase, Morpeth Town beat North Shields 5-0 to line up a 2nd Qualifying Round tie at home to Bedlington Terriers. The winners of the Morpeth v Bedlington tie will be our opponents in the 1st Round.

Consett made further progress in the FA Cup this afternoon with another comfortable win over Northern League Division Two opposition, beating Darlington RA 4-0 at Belle Vue. In a tight first half Jonjo Dickman's 13th minute free kick was the only difference between the sides. However after the interval the Steelmen dominated, and they doubled their lead just before the hour mark through a Gary Ormston header. Carl Piecha added a third eight minutes later, and Mattie Moffat completed the scoring from the penalty spot in the 81st minute. The win takes Consett through to the 1st Qualifying Round where they face a home tie against their nemesis from the 2005-06 FA Cup campaign - Ossett Town. Match report HERE.
Some fixture news. With Bishop Auckland, our scheduled opponents next Saturday, in FA Vase action, the league have somewhat belatedly moved our home game against Sunderland Nissan to that date, bringing it forward from next March.
