Consett have a secured a prestigious friendly against a Sunderland side, which will take place early in the new season on Wednesday 20 August 2008. In order for the game to go ahead on this date, Consett are indebted to Seaham Red Star who have agreed to the league game we had with them, originally scheduled for the same time, being brought forward 24 hours to Tuesday 19 August. In addition to the friendly with Hartlepool United already announced, The Steelmen have a friendly away at Esh Winning on Friday 25 July 2008.

Consett's AGM was held this evening, at which the executive committee was re-elected en bloc with nobody standing against any of the officers. John Hurst announced the official ending of the Hargreaves sponsorship and the club have written to Hargreaves to express their thanks for their support over the last three seasons. Sponsorship for the coming season will be provided from a variety of sources.

It was agreed that admission for league games next season will be £5 & £2.50 but there will be 2008-09 season tickets available priced at £90 & £45.

At Consett's annual presentation Mattie Moffat won Player of the Year with Craig Robson winning Player's Player of the year. Goal of the Season went to Mark Patterson for his strike in the league game at Durham - as voted for by the readers of this site. There were special awards for Kenny Lindoe and David Hagan from the committee for their mostly unpaid efforts during the season.

Next season's fixture list was announced at Saturday's League AGM and we begin the campaign on Saturday 9 August with a home game against newly promoted Penrith Town. The following Wednesday sees us entertain our local rivals Tow Law and then our first away game will be on Saturday 16 August at Northallerton Town, unless we are drawn to play in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup. In the League Cup we've got Penrith again, this time away in the first round, and if we get through that we have a second round home game against Second Division Hebburn Town. Our full 2008-09 fixture list should be up here tomorrow night.

In other news we now have a confirmed pre-season friendly against Michael Mackay's Hartlepool United which takes place at Belle Vue on Tuesday 22 July, kick off 7.00pm.

Consett's annual presentation night has been moved and is now no longer a night. It will now be taking place on SATURDAY 14 June 2008 at Belle Vue and starts at the unusual time of 11.00am. All supporters are welcome.

Consett had a successful evening at the Northern League Presentation Dinner, held last Friday at Ramside Hall near Durham. In addition to picking up the First Division runners-up trophy which came with a cheque for £1500, the club also won the Steven Tierney Memorial Award for the most clean sheets. Top scorer Mattie Moffat had a good night too. As well as the First Division leading goalscorer award, he was joint runner-up in the Northern League Player of the Year (which was won by the late Billingham Synthonia goalkeeper John Jackson) and also won the Radio Newcastle Northern League Player of the Year. Jonjo Dickman was also among the five nominees for that award.
