November 2005 News

30 November 2005

Tonight's League Cup tie at home to Billingham Town has been POSTPONED, again due to a frozen pitch at Belle Vue.

26 November 2005

A fourteenth straight league win from the start of the season for Consett today as they ran out 2-0 winners against Kennek Ryhope.  On a heavy and barely playable pitch, in at times appalling conditions, both sides deserved enormous credit for putting on a pretty good show for the freezing spectators.  The visitors held Consett at bay in a goalless first half, although the Steelmen hit the woodwork twice.  The breakthrough came in the 56th minute when Craig Tate scored from the penalty spot after new signing from Prudhoe Andrew Bulford had been brought down by Ryhope keeper Roddam.  The second came on 73 minutes when a sweeping Consett move ended with Kraig Wilkinson setting up Chris Douglas to score with his first touch after coming on as a substitute. Other news - in today's Durham Challenge Cup Quarter Final draw we've been drawn at home again.  After winning at Belle Vue against Wolviston, Sunderland Nissan and Seaham Red Star in this competition so far, we'll be looking to extend that run when we entertain Billingham Synthonia in the last eight.  The full draw:

CONSETT v Billingham Synthonia
Chester-le-Street v Darlington RA
West Auckland v Birtley Town
Whickham v Billingham Town

Tonight's game against Whickham has been POSTPONED due to the a frozen pitch at Belle Vue.

19 November 2005

On a chilly afternoon in Hebburn, Consett turned in the performance of what has already been a pretty exceptional season as they came away from South Tyneside with an incredible 7-0 away win.  It was 35 minutes before the deadlock was broken, but Consett did so with two goals in a minute from Craig Tate and Kraig Wilkinson.  Mark Patterson added a third on the stroke of half time, however the Steelmen really turned on the style in the second half.  The irrepressible Tate completed his fourth hat trick of the season, with his third and Consett's fifth - a sublime 30 yard chip - being the pick of the seven.  Scott Macdonald's industrious performance in his first start for nearly two months was rewarded with two goals in the last four minutes to complete the rout.  Match report and pictures HERE.

12 November 2005

The Consett Juggernaut rolls on as they made it 12 wins out of 12 in the league this season with a 1-0 home win against Prudhoe Town.  They were made to fight every inch of the way however against a hard-working and resilient Prudhoe side that was a totally different proposition from the one Consett had beaten 5-2 at Kimberley Park in the Craven Cup last month.  The visitors just shaded a tight and goalless first half. Consett created far more in the second half although they had to wait until the 82nd minute for the all-important goal.  Kraig Wilkinson fired in a superb volley after Robbie Blemings' cross had only been partially cleared. 9 November 2005

Consett are through to the quarter finals of the Durham Challenge Cup after a comfortable 2-0 win over Seaham Red Star at Belle Vue this evening.  Both goals came from Craig Tate as the prolific striker's goal-scoring run shows no signs of abating.  He gave the Steelmen the lead in the 10th minute following a good ball from David Robson, and then wrapped things up two minutes from the end with a glancing header from Steven Brown's free kick.  Quite how we reached the 88th minute with the game still in the balance was something of a mystery as numerous chances went begging for Consett.  The Steelmen march on though and in the process they maintained their excellent record of winning every game they've played this season against Northern League opposition.  Match Report and pictures now online.

5 November 2005

Consett secured their 11th straight league win with a 2-1 away win at Norton & Stockton Ancients.  Goals from Chris Douglas on 32 minutes and Craig Tate penalty two minutes later gave the Steelmen a 2-0 half time lead.  They then squandered a number of chances before Marcus Laing pulled one back for the home side eleven minutes from team ensuring Consett had to endure a nervous finale to claim the three points.  Clcik HERE for the Match Report.

4 November 2005

The draw for the 3rd Round of the League Cup has been made, although we aren't actually scheduled to play our 2nd Round game against Billingham Town for another four weeks.  Should we progress through that tie we will play either Thornaby or Northallerton Town away.

2 November 2005

Tonight's game against Spennymoor has been POSTPONED due to the recurrence of the problem with the Belle Vue floodlights.

1 November 2005

Another two home games have been squeezed into our November schedule.  The match against in-form Whickham will now take place at Belle Vue on Wednesday 23 November, and then the following Wednesday, the 30th, we entertain Billingham Town in a League Cup 2nd Round tie.  As things stand now we have eight games scheduled in November - six of them at home!
