Consett went down 0-2
at home to Billingham Sythonia today. After an even first half the
Synners clinched it with two second half goals, the second deep into
injury time. Match Report now
online, with thanks once again to Andrew Pearson for providing these while the
fixture lists conspire to prevent me attending Consett games.

Consett achieved an
impressive draw against top of the league Bedlington Terriers at a
fogbound Belle Vue this evening. Chapman had put the
visitors ahead against the run of play on 21 minutes, but Consett
pulled level on the hour mark through Chris Hodgson. The
Steelmen's cause was helped by the dismissal of Terriers' Ian
Bogie just before have time for a second yellow card - both for
dissent. As the fog thickened in the second half a second
successive abandonment seemed likely but the 90 minutes were
completed and both sides seemed content with the point. Click

Frustration at
Chester-le-Street as Consett's game this afternoon was abandoned
at half time due to floodlight failure. The score was 1-1 at
the time so thankfully neither team could feel particularly
aggrieved. Jeff Sugden had put Consett ahead in the 11th
minute, but Chester hit back 7 minutes before half time through
Anderson. The first half was played in gathering gloom as attempts
to switch the lights on failed. Eventually 6 out of the 8
pylons were lit, but as one quarter of the pitch was in near
darkness the referee decided to abandon the game. Click here for
the Match Report and the pictures
I was able to take before it got too dark!

Yarm, ‘Suggs’ picked up the Over-16 Special Achievement Award. Well done, Jeff.

Consett returned to
winning ways in the League today with a 3-1 win over West Auckland, a result
which lifts Consett out of the bottom three. Goals from Andrew Thompson and Tony
Halliday gave Consett a 2-0 lead at the interval. Stout pulled one back
for West midway through the second half, but Colin McLeod clinched it with a
third two minutes later. Match
report here.
Fixture news, our home game against Bedlington Terriers has been
brought forward 24 hours to Tuesday 26 November to avoid a clash with the
Newcastle v Inter Milan Champions League game. A thousand thanks to Ian
Hamilton for that one!!!

Next Tuesday's game
against Jarrow Roofing is OFF. Roofing were to play Dunston on Tuesday
night in the Durham Challenge Cup but the Jarrow pitch is waterlogged, so that
game will take place next Tuesday, at the expense of our league game.
Some other club news: Consett AFC's Christmas Dinner Dance is
taking place on Saturday 30 November 2002 at Consett Civic Hall, 7pm prompt
start. Tickets are £16, which includes three course meal and
entertainment from a brilliant duo IRONIC, plus a Disco. Contact an
official for tickets as soon as possible.

Consett's interest in
this season's FA Vase began and ended today as they lost at home 1-4 to
Billingham Town. Two goals from Skelton and one from Chillingsworth gave the
visitors a three goal lead. Tony Halliday pulled one back for the Steelmen
but Turner got Billingham's fourth at the end. Click here for a Match
Report.

Consett progressed to
the 3rd Round of the Northern League Cup with another away win in
Washington - their third of the season. This time the Team Formerly
Known As Washington Ikeda Hoover were defeated 1-0 thanks to a late Jeff
Sugden goal - Match Report now
online. In the next round Consett have been drawn away again, and
now have a difficult visit to Billingham Synthonia to contemplate.

Consett were beaten
again today, 2-4 at Durham City, although that really doesn't tell
the whole story. In a totally barmy game at the Archibald's
Stadium Consett found themselves 0-4 down after SEVENTEEN minutes,
only for them to then batter their opponents for the remainder of
the match. They pulled two back through Darren Grimes and
Colin McLeod, created a shed load of other chances and could in
all seriousness have won the game. For the match report, pictures
and general incredulity Click Here.
