Consett
went down 2-1 at home to Birtley Town in their pre-season friendly
today. Wearing an unfamiliar navy and white streaked old Watford
away kit, they will consider themselves unfortunate to have lost a game
they largely dominated. Both Birtley's goals came from Michael
Ford, one in each half. The somewhat controversial first came on
33 minutes after a mid-air clash with James Platten, which left the
Consett keeper with a shoulder injury that forced him to leave the
field. After Consett trialist Darren Fletcher had equalised in the 64th minute
following good work down the left by Ian Davison, Ford broke away to
score the winner 13 minutes from time. Consett rattled the woodwork
twice, but couldn't turn all their possession into goals.

I have been
contacted in the last couple of days by one Harry Glasper who is the official
statistician/historian of Middlesbrough FC. He is in the process of compiling
Boro's history in the North Eastern League from 1906 to 1958. He's looking for
Boro line-ups, scorers, match dates, results etc, and wants to know if anyone
can help with such information about Consett v. Boro games in the NEL, NEL Cup,
Sunderland Ship Owners' Cup etc. during that period. If there is someone
out there who has access to Consett's archives then drop me an email at hardyjp@aol.com
and I'll put you in touch with Harry.

Well with the boys
having already started back for pre-season training, the fixture lists starting
to take shape, and the first of our pre-season friendlies just three weeks away,
it's time to start looking forward to 2002/03. Secretary Ian Hamilton certainly
is and you can read the latest news and views on the Secretary's
Update page, which has now been updated.
