Another valuable
point for Consett this afternoon, thanks to a tremendous second
half performance against second placed Brandon United.
Trailing 0-2 to their visitors at half time, the Steelmen stormed
back to force a 2-2 draw courtesy of two Tony Halliday goals.
Indeed with Consett finishing the stronger of the two teams they
might even have taken all three points. Match

Unsurprisingly, in
view of a week of sub-zero temperatures in the North East, today's game
at Prudhoe is OFF.

COLIN
CLOCKS UP 500
Colin McLeod made his 500th competitive appearances for Consett in the game against
Tow Law Town on 14th December. He became the second player to reach this
landmark in recent weeks with Jeff Sugden having reached the milestone
in October. Colin has been tremendously loyal to the club over the years
as I'm sure he could have played at a higher level or could have gone to
a more successful Northern League Club. But Colin has been happy
at Consett and his goals have helped the club to some great
moments. The most important of his 232 goals for the club came in
1996 when he scored the winner against Gateshead which put us through to
the First Round Proper of the FA Cup. He also helped the Steelmen
to a League Cup win in 1995. Manager Colin Carr said, "He's
been a great servant to the club. To average a goal every couple
of games is a great achievement. He doesn't show any signs of
easing up, I'm pleased to say."

Consett were denied
what would have been a deserved three points at Belle Vue today by a late Tow
Law penalty (above). Earlier in the game Colin McLeod had celebrated the occasion
of his 500th appearance for Consett by giving the Steelmen the lead three
minutes after half time. It was a lead that Consett were to hold until
five minutes from time when Nicholson converted a penalty for a foul on Thompson
by Rod Butler. Insult was added to injury in stoppage time when keeper
Stuart Kelly was sent off for abusing the referee. Click

A second defeat in
seven days at the hands of Billingham Sythonia today, however, no disgrace as Consett
were narrowly beaten 2-3
at Central Avenue. Consett twice came from behind with goals from
Andrew Thompson and Lee Suddes, but finally succumbed to a third from the
Synners eight minutes from time. Click here for a Match
